3-D Archery Range Loss Prevention

2015-11-30
  • Course should be arranged to permit a safety zone behind the target at of least 50% of the distance being shot unless adequate barrier is present.
  • There should also be a safety zone of 20 yards on each side of the target in the event of glance offs.
  • All footpaths should be free of tripping and slipping hazards.
  • There must be an emergency evacuation procedure posted at the starter's shack and tested monthly.
  • Natural hazards such as bees nests, swampy ground, steep hills, etc. should be clearly marked and/or eliminated.
  • Never allow competitors to look for arrows which missed the target until after the competition.
  • During non-tournament shooting, if a lost arrow is sought, someone must remain at the target to let those approaching the station know that there are still archers on that target.
  • All persons on the 3-D course, whether working or shooting, must have a current signed waiver on file with the course management.
